Birthday flowers!
Happy birthday to me. ![]()
It’s been forever and a day since I’ve posted- as Chris pointed out. Every now and then I get that little twinge. A little craving to share some little bit of information with the world. I just haven’t been willing to make the commitment to come back to blogging full time. At least not at this domain. I’d taken to using Flickr for those purposes for a little while, but even that has fallen to the wayside.
A lot has happened in the past year. I finished school. I’ve been at my new job for over a year and I’m learning more every day. I’m moving again next week. I have a birthday coming on Wednesday. My best friend had TWINS. I’m thinking about grad school. So many things have happend that I just haven’t found time to write them down. Maybe I will sometime soon.
Yup, I went and disappeared for another six months. I could say things have been crazy (and they have) but honestly, I just haven’t had anything to say. School is still going, I’m wrapping up my fourth class and getting ready for a 3 week break from school. I started a new job at a design agency in May. I’m working on a new website… those three weeks school-free will come in handy for that. I miss blogging. I miss the community and being able to look back at entries three months ago to be able to re-live what I was doing and feeling at that time. I want to get back into it, but I’ve resolved to take a break until it feels less like a chore to think of something to say.
In the meantime, a fun link! Cat cam!
So, I’ve started my first design class.
I’m not sure if I’m being harder on myself than I should be, but I’m finding it challenging so far. “Book smarts” come to me easily and always have. I’m having a tough time with “artistic inspiration.” Also, the instructor is most definitely an artist moreso than a teacher or a great communicator. I can’t understand a damn word the guy says (well, it’s an online course, so I guess I mean every word he types). It’s like each of his sentences are enigmas wrapped in more mystery. Not only that, his grammar and spelling are very poor, although it’s a requirement that I, as a student, must use proper grammar and spelling when completing assignments. WTF? Spellcheck, dude. It’s right there. Just click it.
The saving grace of the class so far is that the assignments are definitely working my creative muscles and also helping me to learn the software needed for the Graphic Design program. I’ve looked ahead at the assignments and I’m excited about beginning to develop a portfolio of design work.
It sure does keep me busy though. I’ve also registered a new domain. Somewhere to keep my portfolio. Maybe if you’re lucky you’ll get to see it.
Hm. It seems it’s been a coupla months since I’ve posted here. I just haven’t felt the need to write anything. I’ve been spending more time in the outside world than at the computer. I know… crazy, right?
Let’s see… updates. I bought a new camera, I read some books, and I made a pretty big decision. I’ve decided to go back to school. If all goes well with the application process, I’ll be starting in early January on a graphic design degree. I’ve done the financial aid thing, wrote the college essay, and got my schedule the other day pending acceptance. So, there will be more time in front of the computer, but probably not spent blogging. Sorry, guys.
Still no cable. This is how they left my outlet today after the eighth or ninth appointment I’ve had with them.
I took megan’s advice and wrote a note to The Consumerist today.
I ordered a new cell phone today and it’s PINK! Yay for no more crappy cell phone!
I have recently started to write letters.
It started out with the cable company. I was so angry that I just needed to get my whole story out on paper. I wrote a letter to their complaints department yesterday asking that my situation be resolved and that I be compensated for the trouble I’ve experienced.
Today, I wrote a letter to another local communications company regarding a customer service issue I experienced. I’m thinking that letter writing is the way to go. Even if my situation isn’t resolved, it makes me feel better to get it out and to know that someone on the other end has to take some time to read my letter.
I’ll keep you posted, Internet, on the outcome of my letters.
I made an appointment to get my hair cut on Thursday night. It’s been farrrrr too long since my last cut (at the beginning of May?) so it’s time that I bit the bullet. I’ve never had a regular stylist or had a salon that I frequented, so it’s kind of weird for me to live in a place where that’s the norm. So, I found a place down the street from my apartment and perused their website. Ok, so I pored over it for about an hour reading all of their testimonials. And then I called to set up an appointment for Thursday at 7. A lot of the testimonials mentioned a stylist named Casey that they liked, so I was happy to hear that my appointment is with Casey. Hopefully, she can do something with my scary blonde mop. The salon also offers many spa services, so if I like it there, I can see about having all of my beautification done there. : )
Chris took this amazing photo from the roof of our apartment building last night. Those are the lights shining in Lower Manhattan to represent the twin towers.
